I'm thinking about building my own PC, now that Liam built one himself.

ok I've just written a very good text but when i wanted to klick on another tab i klicked favourite link which are just shown above the tabs in mozilla firefox.

I've found a good vid which explains how to build your own pc
I've found all parts I need on Amazon.de (very good online-shipping-site)

Liam could you pls check if that is all I need and if the parts match because I am a bit confused by DDR2 and GDDR2 and AMD and AM2+ and ATx :s

First here is what i've got in my shopping cart:

-mainboard

-hard drive

-main memory/main storage/active memory/RAM/user memory/working memory/working storage
(whichever of those words u would like to use )

-graphic(s) board

-power supply unit/power supply pack/power supply/power pack xD

-device/drive/running gear (the thing where you put in a CD or DVD)

-monitor

-keyboard and mouse

Also that's a really cool idea building your own computer, Just make sure you get the right parts, like I didn't, Now I gotta order a couple more cables because the ones i've got are to short. LOL.

MAKE SURE THE MOTHERBOARD AND RAM ARE BOTH "Socket 775" or you won't be able to plug anything in..

Get a more expensive power supply than my one, MY CABLES DON'T REACH GOTTA BUY EXTENSIONS. Also DO NOT BUY ANYTHING "OEM" It means Original (something) Manufacturer If you buy anything OEM it doesn't come with cables and you have to buy more, So you should try to buy everything in retail boxed condition (Make sure it comes in a box)

I'm not getting my parts for another two weeks T^T I gotta put the money in bank this week and order next thursday, 5 day delivery so I won't be able to finish until thursday after.


Sorry I can't be of more help, But I got a friend to make my list, This was my first computer build too ^^.

Also don't watch videos to learn, Read the motherboard Manual, It shows how to put everything in with pictures

+ you remember what you did better this way!

Ok so motherboard and mainboard are the same
Then LGA775 and 775 is just the same
Is retail-box good?

Here the parts I've got:

- 'Asus P5KPL SE' ATX Motherboard with LGA775 socket and 2 DDR sockets for RAM

- 'Intel Pentium E6300 Dual-Core' CPU 2.8GigaHerz, 2 MB Cache, LGA775 Socket (yeah it matches
with motherboard) (is Intel Pentium worse or better than Intel Core?)

- 'Seagate Barracuda 7200.12' hard drive with 500 Gigabites which is 3,5" big; here stuff that I don't understand: HDD S-ATA 300 Mbit/s 7200rpm 17MB Cache

- 'Nvidia GeForce 9800GT Synergy' 1GB, full retail-packaging, PCI-E, DVI-D

- Two 2 gigabytes DDR2 RAMs from Kingston; more stuff I don't understand: (PC2-6400 800MHz CL6)

- A Corsair CMPSU-400CXEU ATX power supply with 400 watts (yeah ATX matches with the mainboard)

- A disk drive from LG (bulk-ware)

- A black ATX PC housing in black with 2 exhausters inside (yeah ATX matches with motherboard)

Hmm let's see...

motherboard, CPU, hard drive, graphics board, RAM, power supply, drive, housing

Oh yeah I've found a nice monitor....

A Samsung Syncmaster 710N which is 17 inches big. It's a TFT-monitor, coloured silver and with 8 miliseconds reaction time (wow that's fast)



For all that together I would pay €511,18 :S

Is retail-box good?
Ok Retail box means It's exactly the same as you'd buy it in a shop Retail is best because they give you the cables you need inside the box, I bought OEM and had to buy tons of cables which've probably cost around 30 so far.

what is G31?
I do not have a clue.

is Intel Pentium worse or better than Intel Core?
Same Man Different Hat although one is newer than the other *cough* CORE *Cough* but it shouldn't matter, as long as they work right? hah

HDD
Hard Disk Drive

S-ATA
There are two types of HDD SATA and IDE now IDE uses a think cable and is slower than SATA and SATA uses a thin cable that is quite alot faster and is newer technology.

300 Mbit/s
Mega Bits is speed at which information is sent to the HDD.

7200rpm
This is 7200 Revs Per Minute. ( How many times it spins every minute, Faster the spin means the quicker thinks are saved)

17MB Cache
A Cache is sort of like a block of memory that will be kept back and not used so that incase of an emergency like (full HDD you won't be able to save) If there weren't Caches then the HDD would get stuck in an endless loop that means it will keep trying to find a place for your file to get saved and because there isn't one it won't find it.

PCI-E
Don't know, but I shouldn't think it matters much.

GDDR2 Memory
Ok I know that in 2000-2004ish someone created DDR memory Well DDR2 is upgraded DDR, I don't know what the G stands for, But If It's 2 and not 1 it's gotta be good? xD

HDCP Support
ok HD could mean Hard Drive/Disk or High Definition, I don't know which but use google for the ones I don't know ^^ My internet is messing up so I can't load google, LOL.

GPU means Graphics Processing Unit, Yet another Fancy name for a Graphics Card, Although sometimes GPUs are actually on the motherboard when you buy it, This is called an Intergrated/Internal Graphics Processing Unit or IGPU.

This is the max speed for something, higher the number the better, lol.

bulk packaging, is that bad??
depends on what bulk Packaging is, Is everything being sent together in one large box, Or is it coming in loads of tiny ones? Or does Bulk Packaging mean they send everything you need with the parts, Like

do you think 2GB RAM is enough or should i buy 2x 2GB?
Get 2 x 2gb You won't be able to play any games with 2GB, well you will but you'll just LAG ALOT.



Now here is my message:

Get a 9800 GFX Card, You'll be able to play games for the next 3-4 years without needing to upgrade ^^ and you can play ANY GAME you want with a 9800

Bulk Packaging means not the Retail box but just some Random box you find and you put the thing u sell into that box and maybe a bit of that fluffy stuff to protect the thing inside the box but it's without all cables, without instruction sheet and without the other extras you would get when buying in retail-box. sometimes bulk-ware also means mass manufacturing and bulk stuff is lower quality. but here it's just about the packaging

Ok I've got a 9800GT GFX with 1GB GDDR3 Memory (ok so what is GDDR3? I suppose it doesn't matter...)

Then a dual-core CPU with 2.8GHz (2x2.8=5.6GHz wow is that good?
Also some people wrote that u could easily (umm I don't know the technical word for it so let's say: ) 'upgrade' the CPU from 2.8gig to 3.5gig if u just change it in BIOS. (wow 7GHz from a 70€ CPU that's awsome)
